Unexpected Movies to watch ASAP!

If they would give an award for it, I’ll be undoubtedly nominated for movies expertise!

I’ve spent most of my free time consuming movies like breathing air. If you find me surfing on the net, it was mainly to look for the next movie to watch. Lots of them were a complete waste of time; it got me filled with disappointment and outrage every time I ended a terrible one, that’s why it is always helpful to have a list of the best ranked and recommended movies on you. After all, no one wants to throw out of the window two long hours on a shitty movie, especially when you have high hopes for the end, but it turns out that the producer had no intention to make it any better.

During the last decades, Cinema in our homes jumped from a tendency to another. Our attention was dragged to the best movie regardless its nationality or its type, all what mattered was the quality of the content. I remember the time when everybody was obsessed with action and martial arts movies, especially those leaded by Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Van Damme, Sylvester Stallone… Then there were the famous Bollywood movies with Shah Rukh Khan; an escape from the world of violence to the perfect world of romance and love. After it was the huge come back of the Egyptians, since the black and white era, in particularly with Ahmed Hilmi and his incredible sense of humor.

Then, later on, Hollywood regained ground and became once again the evident first choice; people got captivated by the daring comedies, the awesome superheroes, the thrilling action, the frightening horrors, and above all the compelling stories. The American Culture began thus spreading worldwide and lots of people were hooked. In fact, well-made movies are a powerful way to communicate ideals, countries’ culture, promote a desired image, and therefore expand influence.

Before discussing the failure of American movies nowadays and the new choice everybody should absolutely opt for instead, let’s make a list of some memorable American Movies you must watch right away. The list is actually very long, but I tried to select my top favorites:

1-      The wind river 2017

2-      The uninvited 2009

3-      The last house on the left 2009

4-      The call 2013

5-      The prestige 2006

6-      The illusionist 2006

7-      Nocturnal Animals 2016

8-      Orphan 2009

9-      Seven 1995

10-   Knives out 2019

11-   Prisoners 2013

Unfortunately, the American movies Industry seems to focus lately more on the profit than the quality content. We are submerged in the endless number of unrealistic superheroes, the remakes of multiple old movies and animations, the repetition of the same message over and over again, that we became extremely thirsty for something new and different. Although we must admit the outstanding effects and techniques used in recent movies, the content however is becoming terribly mediocre and dreadfully boring. The core of any movie is essentially the story-line and not the superficial aspects, and that’s exactly where American movies are starting to fail: the focus on extravagant environments, the prodigious effect of imaginary powers, the figure of attractive actors and actresses, the flawless justice of Americans, the perfection, the obvious actions and endings…

As a huge fan of American movies, I was really disappointed of the awful lack of creativity and originality. The industry is simply saturated, and its monopole time is nearly over. The rise of foreign movies from all over the world, the quick circulation of information and the hunger of people to discover new cultures and new perspectives, push Americans aside to give place for worthier movies.

Here is a list of some awesome movies that got me the following effect: “They are not Americans yet they managed to make the most meaningful and creative movie ever, Just Bravo!”

Let’s start with Korean Movies, they actually surpassed all my expectations and created some very good pieces, one of them won the Oscar last year: the famous Parasite. South Korea already rocks the world with their fascinating K-Pop and compelling K-Dramas, but their movies began to gain a larger popularity due to the artistic storytelling, the unbeatable sense of humor, and the embodiment of an undeniable reality.

1-      Parasite 2019: A deep movie that will push you to scratch the decorated surface to discover beneath it a much more terrible realism.

2-      Train to Busan 2016: For Zombies lovers, a whole other level.

3-      Beasts clawing at straws 2020: A refined story of greedy people in despair.
The Handmaiden 2016: Beautifully disturbing, a psychological movie with unexpected events and ending.

5-      Snowpiercer 2013: Yep, that was a South Korean movie; it had to be, just spectacular.

6-      The Age of Shadows 2016: A revolution for freedom, a remarkable historical movie.

7-      Extreme Job 2019: Action Comedy, for the lovers of simplicity and utter humor.

8-       Veteran 2015: A very moving story with an unstoppable justice seeker.

9-      Midnight Runners 2017: Action, unveiled horrors, Thriller, and comedy all at once.

10-  Exit 2019: The new kind of Action/Romance.

11-  200 Pounds Beauty 2006: The funny Romance.

Second, the Indian Movies, Nop I’m not talking about stupid love stories, hysterical action, and endless dancing and singing. I’m talking about masterpieces; a supreme example of talent and authenticity; movies that will snatch you from the lying screens and elegantly introduce you to the brutal living world; movies that tackle multiple issues, incite us to think thoroughly, and perceive under an unusual angle. Indians have indeed proven that they can make first class movies effortlessly and artistically.

1-      Hindi Medium 2017: A mixture of Drama and Comedy with a striking reality revealed.

2-      3 idiots 2009: If you want to incessantly laugh out loud and learn beautiful life lessons.

3-      Super 30 2019: A solid push for enthusiasm and perseverance.

4-      Gully Boy 2019: For Rap and awesome stories lovers.

5-      Uyare 2019: An emotional dramatic movie that will leave you speechless.

6-     Secret Superstar 2017: This one is musical and it will leave you in tears.

7-      Raazi 2018: Far from James Bond and its nonsense, this movie is about real life espionage, and it is way more thrilling and breathtaking.

8-      Peekay 2014: A movie that tackles religion in a flawless way.

9-      Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2015: A beautiful family movie with high values.

10-  Neerja 2016: A real heroic thrilling story.

Last but not least, for the ones who are ready to dare their minds, here is Another movie to add to the must watch list, a Spanish film:

The invisible guest 2017, for mysteries and unexpected ending.

Erase the prejudice and just watch these movies without thinking twice, I promise you won’t regret it.

ENJOY J
