So here is what happened and what basically went wrong:
Every one of us in this life is meant to do something; don't we all have something we love to do, something that we are incomparably good at, something in which we lose ourselves and get transported to another dimension where time and space don’t exist, something that holds our unique signature, something that defines us more and fuel our purpose in a seemingly meaningless life, something creative that inspires us and makes us feel alive: Photography, design, art, music, dance, sports, literature… We tended to call them hobbits or trivial passions, and had virtually thus never been regarded as real careers and serious sources of living.
In consequence, you’ll find a doctor who spends his
free time writing and dreams to be a writer. A history teacher fond of
travelling and photographing panoramic views, but finds himself instead stuck
in a crowded city. Or even an accountant craving for a rhythm but never finds
time for his dancing classes. We are all compelled to blindly conform to a system
that dictates strict schedules with monotonous lists of tasks in exchange of a
mediocre monthly salary, which seems never enough to cover the growing necessities
of life. Such a system that defines systematically careers and professions
regardless the person’s personality and individuality, was actually morphing people
into robots that gradually lost sight of the meaning of life.
Therefore, this system proved to be an enormous generator of anxiety and depression. A change was thus urgently
desirable, and to that call of distress, raging waves of inspirational speech and
happiness recipes were ravaging the minds of the desperate souls. Combined with
the influence of social Medias, it became clear, under the example of many
inspiring figures, that chasing after one’s dream is the right thing to do, and
pure fulfillment only lies beyond reaching and achieving your goal.
This of course had a major positive impact on lots
of hidden artists, and awesomely fueled innumerable mind-blowing initiatives
and creations. But like any phenomenon in this universe, the dark side is
always present!
Madly looking for a purpose in this life and hysterically
pursuing the presumed ultimate happiness were evidently driving people awfully obsessed
and unhappy. The comparison with people who’ve “made it” to their dreams was
dispiriting, the roadblocks were discouraging, and the connection with the surroundings
was fading away. Only one goal was fixed and fought for, and when that dream is eventually fulfilled, another dream pops up to replace it, and then another one and so
on. The great happiness and accomplishment turned out to be but mere mirage after which ambitious souls are incessantly running.
Don’t conclude, however, that struggling to make
your dream come true is a false delusion and a worthless journey. But rather
understand that your dream is not your soul’s whole and sole purpose in this
life. Maybe it’s a part of it but not just it.
Walking under the warmth of the sun and sensing the
gentle breeze on your skin might be a part of it too. Listening to the rhythmic
fall of rain drops might be your thing as well. Breathing deeply fresh air,
running, jumping, laughing, cuddling, eating, or simply feeling your heart beat
might all be what your soul is truly craving for.
Amazing article, I wished that you could write more about this.
