Tell me frankly: what has been your personal goal in life so far? I mean other than getting through the day with your 9 to 5 or 6 full time job, and other than doing the chores, eating and sleeping only to do it all over again the day after?
What is that something you wish you could have time
to accomplish? What is that purpose that is shining brightly before your eyes
but its glow keeps growing dimmer with each day that passes without progress
towards it?
Whether it’s a weight you want to lose, a book you
want to finish, a project you want to explore, a lifestyle you want to improve,
a skill you want to learn, a test you want to pass, or an addiction you want to quit. The odds of steadily progressing
towards your goal are usually against you if your whole day is spent on a stressful job or shallow tasks that drain out the last drop of your energy at the end of each day. I mean
the system is perfectly conceived to turn us into walking dead rather than
human beings at the end of every working day. I honestly have to congratulate them on
that achievement!
Putting the tragedy aside, what can you do about it? If every part of your body is telling you to simply give up to the tiring routine, be a couch potato and watch Netflix while eating junk food without the slightest regret, then I suppose that is the right thing for you to do. Keep enjoying life that way; it’s much easier, good for you!
However if a small part of you rejects wholeheartedly
the situation you are currently in and genuinely, not just desire, but crave
for a change, for a better life, or for a better version of yourself, then this
series of articles is for you.
How to start doing what you love and keep doing it
without falling off the wagon? How to move steadily towards your goal? How to
make wishes happen for real?
There is no magical recipe of course. It’s going to be tough, depressing, outraging, and agonizing. But that would be a good and joyful sign; it means that you are moving forward and that you are changing for the better. I’m not a big fan of inspirational speeches and I don’t want my articles to be one of these. But I found a startling answer to my puzzling question that I cannot prevent myself from sharing it.
How to work towards your goal with a full time job, a full
time parent, or both? Why we keep giving up our dreams to this taxing life? What
are the keys to understand what’s wrong and what should be altered in order to
progress? What is the logic behind our failures and incapacity to keep up?
The answer though came up with a plain form as the
following:
To change
something in your life you need the magical combination of belief and willpower.
Ok, that sounds good, but not that promising, right?
I’ve
spent a good deal of my life wondering on how to channel enough belief and
willpower to achieve my goal. I prayed and meditated a lot in order to feel
that there is a higher force supporting me and directing me, and so to believe.
And consequently I kept pushing and encouraging myself relying, in the back of
my mind, on the answer of my prayers, impatiently waiting to be showered with willpower from
above.
It worked sometimes and in many times it didn’t. So
let us skip the fantastic stories and get to the practical part shall we?
